Job Profile

Recruitment is currently taking place for a role in our Data Modelling team.

The successful applicant will be joining an elite group of individuals charged with implementing and delivering all aspects of Vela Trading Technologies products. This role is focused on ensuring that all Vela Trading Technologies products have been designed, implemented and delivered to a common market data model that allows our customers to maintain their edge in the most challenging IT dependent sector in the world.

This will require an individual with excellent analytic skills, meticulous attention to detail and the ability to work across multiple teams. It will be a very challenging and rewarding role ideally suited to a person who is willing to learn and with a desire for career progression.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provision of financial market data content expertise to the teams across the Vela Trading Technologies organization
  • Development of Vela Trading Technologies Market Data Model to include new technologies and assets
  • Support for the on-boarding of all new market data venues required by feed handlers, market gateways and other products
  • Definition and promotion of good data normalisation practice for key trading events, principles and governance
  • Development of processes and tools to enhance the quality and efficiency of market data management within Vela Trading Technologies

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required


  • A Degree (Min 2.ii) in IT or Business with an IT related discipline or equivalent
  • Understanding of Financial Markets – the trading of financial instruments (Equities, Derivatives, Fixed Income, FX)
  • Ability to interpret financial market data for key trading events such as Quote, Trade, Security Status and Reference data
  • Effective communication – good oral and written interpersonal skills adequate for dealing & communicating clearly with people from all levels of the organisation
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical abilities
  • Good documentation and presentation
  • Demonstrable ability to work as a self-starter requiring limited supervision
  • Proven track record of exceptional performance, high productivity and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise responsibilities
  • Highly motivated, willingness and ability to learn, ability to demonstrate initiative
  • Travelling when required


  • Knowledge of trading venues/exchanges/settlement/clearing
  • Knowledge of market data feed protocols
  • Experience of business process analysis/data modelling
  • Experience of product management
  • Experience in financial software industry
  • Experience of Unix/Linux
  • Experience of computer programming/scripting
